TAV Holding turns its eyes to Batumi International in Georgia

Batumi International

Airport figures:

Construction completion date: May 2007

Total construction area: 232,750 m2

Capacity: 562, 500 passengers per year

Autopark: 2,722 m2

Similar to its relationship with the Tblisi International Airport, TAV Airports Holding,  a company recognized as being the international firm to have made the largest investment yet in Georgia, will utilize a "build-manage-turn over" model with the Batumi International Airport. It is anticipated that the Batumi International Airport will have a capacity of 562,000 passengers annually, and that it will be used jointly by Georgia and Turkey. In accordance with an agreement already signed between Tbilisi and Ankara, flights from Batumi will be able to reach all points in Turkey.

TAV Airports Holding President and CEO Dr. M. Sani Sener says his company aims to speed up civil aviation projects in Georgia, and to contribute to the country's economy. Sener also noted that joint use of the Batumi International Airport by Georgia and Turkey would have a positive effect on regional development, as well as opening the way to tourism along the border area between the two countries. He also noted that the Georgian government was already engaged in other projects aimed at developing the touristic infrastructure of Batumi and its surrounding region.

Batumi International Airport

The Batumi International Airport, which is located in the Georgian autonomous region of Acara, includes construction of a new terminal building with an adjoining parking lot, as well as runways, apron areas, and service buildings. The terminal building, with its 4,256 meters of usable space, and the open air parking lot, will be able to serve passengers and their luggage in the most comfortable way possible. The terminal has also been designed to be easily expanded or modified as necessary in the future.  It is filled with the latest in modern equipment and technology.

The Batumi International Airport offers high technology, as well as modernity and functionality. Glass fronting, backing and siding combine with the interior look to provide a well-lighted quality to the terminal. The design, which also includes wooden panels on the sides, metal window blinds and domes of glass, gives the Batumi International Airport an original character and stylish form.
